The Story Behind Revolutionary Baby Food Company Little Spoon

Angela Vranich and Ben Lewis, the co-founders behind Little Spoon, are revolutionizing baby and kids food industry. Approaching the one-year anniversary of their Biteables line, the dynamic duo recently reflected on their journey. 

For Vranich and Lewis, business isn’t just a venture; it’s a way of life. With both partners deeply immersed in the day-to-day operations of Little Spoon, they view their relationship as a competitive advantage. Lewis reflects, “The fact is you’re never going to be quite as connected, and quite as engaged with each other’s needs [as when you’re in a relationship].” This shared commitment and understanding propel them forward in their entrepreneurial journey.

Their story began long before Little Spoon, rooted in a high school romance in Pittsburgh. Despite attending neighboring high schools, it wasn’t until 2006, during their sophomore and junior years, respectively, that they crossed paths. 

Their journey took them from the steel city to college in Philadelphia and eventually to San Francisco. Along the way, they gained invaluable experience working in and around the food industry, laying the groundwork for their future endeavors. While they pursued separate ventures, the couple’s shared passion for food and entrepreneurship fueled countless conversations about potential opportunities.

It was during the early 2010s, amidst the rise of direct-to-consumer brands, that Vranich and Lewis identified a glaring gap in the market: baby food. Despite the proliferation of health-focused brands, the baby food industry remained largely untouched by innovation. Armed with their collective expertise and a vision for change, they embarked on a mission to revolutionize the industry.

With Vranich leading as Chief Product Officer and Lewis at the helm as CEO, Little Spoon was born. Their meticulous attention to detail, from recipe development to branding, set them apart in a crowded market. They propelled Little Spoon to success, offering a diverse range of products tailored to children’s evolving nutritional needs.

Today, Little Spoon feeds 2.5 percent of babies in the United States, a testament to the couple’s dedication and vision. As they continue to navigate the challenges of the post-pandemic era, Vranich and Lewis remain steadfast in their commitment to Little Spoon and each other.
