Turning a Side Hustle into a Lucrative Business: Sina Omosowon’s Entrepreneurial Success

Sina Omosowon’s journey to success is a testament to the power of determination, resourcefulness, and seizing opportunities. What started as a humble side hustle to support his education and family blossomed into a thriving business that not only provided financial stability but also offered him the freedom of being his own boss.

In 2019, while pursuing his Ph.D. in plant evolution with a focus on food crop production and improvement, Sina began his entrepreneurial journey by founding Shine, a TV-mounting business. Introduced to the idea by a friend who recognized the growing demand for such services, Sina saw an opportunity to capitalize on this need and supplement his income. “My business ultimately helped me pay for school and finish my Ph.D. with no debt,” Sina says

The early days were marked by a steep learning curve as Sina familiarized himself with the intricacies of TV mounting. He underwent training, shadowed experienced professionals, and immersed himself in learning through online resources and hands-on experience. Building trust with customers was an important step in building his business, especially without a track record or reviews to rely on. Sina leveraged discounts and a proactive approach to customer communication to establish a reputation for reliability and quality service.

Platforms like Thumbtack provided valuable exposure, enabling Sina to connect with clients in his area and showcase his expertise through reviews and project portfolios. As positive feedback accumulated and his skills sharpened, the momentum grew, propelling his business to new heights. Today, boasting nearly 1,000 five-star reviews, Shine stands as a testament to Sina’s dedication and commitment to excellence. “Steadily, I started getting more and more customers and became even more efficient at TV mounting, which allowed me to serve more people in a day,” Sina says. “Today, I can mount a TV in 15 minutes.”

Challenges were not in short supply along the way. The initial investment required for equipment and promotional efforts tested Sina’s finances. However, his perseverance paid off, with returns outweighing the initial outlay within a few months. The transition from a side hustle to a full-time endeavor was a significant milestone, one that required careful consideration and a leap of faith. Opting to pursue his entrepreneurial dreams over conventional employment opportunities, Sina embraced the autonomy and fulfillment that came with running his own business.

Now, with an average monthly revenue of $30,000, Sina’s success story serves as inspiration for aspiring entrepreneurs. “My biggest piece of advice for anyone interested in being an entrepreneur is to make customer satisfaction a priority,” he says. By focusing on delivering exceptional service and cultivating positive relationships with clients, success becomes a natural byproduct. Sina’s journey underscores the transformative power of dedication, resilience, and a commitment to excellence.
